Food-grade conveyor belts must meet strict regulatory standards to ensure food safety. This guide explains the key standards and what they mean for your operation.
FDA Compliance (USA)
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulates materials that come into contact with food under CFR Title 21. Belts must be manufactured from FDA-listed materials and not impart odor, taste, or contaminants to food. BasonDrive food-grade belts use FDA-compliant PU materials.
EU Regulation 1935/2004
This EU framework regulation covers all materials intended to come into contact with food. It requires that materials do not transfer constituents to food in quantities that could endanger human health or change food composition. BasonDrive provides Declaration of Compliance documents.
EU Regulation 10/2011 (Plastics)
Specific to plastic materials in food contact. Sets migration limits for substances that may transfer from the belt to food. PU belts must meet overall migration limit of 10mg/dm².
HACCP Compatibility
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requires belts to be: easily cleanable, non-porous (no bacterial harborage), resistant to cleaning chemicals, and traceable. BasonDrive food-grade belts are designed for HACCP compliance.
Key Belt Features
• Non-porous surface (prevents bacterial growth)
• Resistant to CIP (Clean-in-Place) chemicals
• Blue color option (detectable if fragments enter food)
• Temperature resistant for hot washdown (-30°C to +100°C)
• Metal-detectable layers available
All BasonDrive food-grade belts come with full traceability documentation and material certification.
